Zanimljiva knjiga. Puno detalja iz života nekih od najznačajnijih aktera amerikane, novog američkog, hm tradicionalnog kantrija, outlaw kantrija, etc. Većina profila je ispisana ujendačeno, bazirani na intervjuima, faktografijama. Opisi prvih proba, turneja, kako su nastale pjesme, etc. Neki likovi su prilično iskusni i iza sebe imaju sijaset albuma, kao npr. Waylon Jennings, Billy Joe Shaver, Charlie Louvin, onda na red dolazi nešto mlađi Mickey Newbury, Guy Clark (veliki prijatelj pokojnog Townes Van Zandta), potom Steve Earle, pa cowpunkeri Jason & The Scorchers, većinski Britanci Waco Brothers, pa sve do "mladih nada" The Jayhawksa, Son Volta, Wilca, danas već bivših Whiskeytown, Palacea, Gillian Welch...

[juche]upravo citam. tuzno isprazna, ali ne i dosadna knjiga. autorka je profesor "indie" kulturologije na nekakvom univerzitetu u US.
[danas]zavrsio. pronasao sam jednu dobru recenicu na samom kraju knjige: "even if it is reduced to a cliche, somebody watching that cliche will already be thinking about and planning ways in which that cliche can be reimagined. That is what it means to be indie." Kaya Oakes je bila profesor na UC Berkley. Pise poeziju pa je na tu temu (nezavisno izdavastvo u literaturi) elaborirala u dva poglavlja. Spominje i strip: Crumba, Bodea, Spiegelmana, bracu Hernandez, Peter Baggea, Charles Burnesa (Ghost World) etc. Bavi se i heklanjem, kucnom radinoscu iliti sa "craftom" tipicno "zenskom" zanimacijom. Muzicka strana se uglavnom zavrsava na Minutemanu, Mission of Burma, K-Records, Rrriot Grrrl ili kako se vec pise pokretom, Silver Jewsima, Pavementom, etc. Ima jos toga, ali knjiga je iskreno receno - za zaborav.

Kratki pregled britanskih, njemackih (Phillip Boa) i holandskih (The Ex) post punk bendova od poznatijih The Nightingales, Age of Chance, Janitors, The Wedding Present pa do onih za koje se manje culo. U skoro svakom poglavlju spominju se The Fall i Captain Beefheart, mozda pomalo pretjerano. Autor ne stedi rijeci hvale ni za sopstvene projekte The Membranes i Goldblade. Vecim dijelom se oslanja na intervjue sto je i dobra strana knjige, licna zapazanja su manje vrijedna.
