Jedini originalni član The Black Doga je Ken Downie iz Šefilda. Za razvoj svoje karijere najviše krivi nekad megaaktivnog Richarda H. Kirka iz Cabaret Voltaire, a nije tajna da je osim lokalne scene voleo i Throbbing Gristle, čije ime još s mukom pokušavam u ovom redovima ispravno da napišem.
The Black Dog veliko su ime u svom domenu i pored brojnih albuma, EPjeva, remixa i drugih izdanja, često nastupaju po festivalima i šire legendu o sebi. 30 godina među sekvenserima i softverom nije malo. Stalno mora nešto da se menja i razvija, ali svoj upečatljivi i prepoznatljivi izraz zadržali su i do sada. Downie često istražuje po datotekama sa svojim idejama koje mu pomažu da se izbori sa hroničnom depresijom.
Kaže da ne postoji recept za zvuk i da ne može recimo da bude podjednako inovativan kao recimo "SND ili Demdike Stare" koje poznaje i poštuje. Da prevazilazi granice žanra svedoče i pozivi pokojnog Perla za nastupe u njegovoj emisiji pored " The Fall, Altered Images, Souxsie And The Banshees, Dillinger, Ivor Cutlera".
Naravno, ima tu, naročito u starijim ostvarenjima, ritmova koji pokreću na kretanje i ples. I za one koji to prate na sceni, od Boiler Room, Berghaina do Moskve, mogu da se dobro zabave uz njihove mixeve i live setove. Meni je ovo i dalje, više za opuštanje u domaćoj atmosferi i na sofi.
Kažu da imaju stotine i stotine terabajta materijala i da im je sve teže odlučiti se šta ide u javnost.
The Black Dog odlično poznaju okruženje, druge producente, žale pomalo što vinili ne mogu da održe značaj koji zaslužuju i tako omoguće trajniju opipljivost onome što stvaraju.
Valjda ovaj miks ne nestane tako brzo.
