Knjiga bivšeg člana The Fall, Steve Hanleya i nije toliko gorka. Iako se završava rečima: "jedno je sigurno. Više nikada neću ponovo zasvirati bas gitaru u The Fall." Zapravo, blago je naklona, ili blagonaklona prema, mislim, devetnaest godina vredne i nepovratne mladosti, provedenih u nekoliko, kreativno najpotentnijih postava.

Bend, u kom je jedina konstanta Mark E. Smith, ili kako ga Hanley naziva "Mark Smith", već godinama nosi auru najpostojanije, najkvalitetnije i najkonzistentnije nezavisne manufakture soničnih tegoba, sa britanskih ostrva. Obožavaoci sigurno idu i dalje u svojim definicijama, bulažnjenjima i preterivanjima. Konacni "proizvodi" su i dan danas teško svar(lj)ivi za nesagledivu konzumentsku masu. Čak i kad se radi o brojnim reprizama "goreg života". "Najnoviji" objavljeni koncertni snimci, "Yarbles", stari su skoro 12 godina. Opet, na trenutke zvuče tako sveže i neprekuvano.

Ostaje zagonetka zašto se Hanley odlučio (baš 2014.) na ovaj literarni korak? Novac? Lični doprinos demitologizaciji i razotkrivanju kontrolnih mehanizama, u popu poznatih u slučajevima Stonesa, New Ordera/Joy Divisiona, nešto ranije kod Beefhearta/Magic Banda i mnogim drugima.

Hanley, nesporno, izdržao je duže od mnogih, pa i nekoliko supruga MESa. Verovatno zato jer mu nije dozvoljavao da se na bini poigrava sa dugmadima na njegovom pojačalu. Držao je distancu. Znao je da se odupre enormnim pritiscima. Verovatno i zato jer mnoge od njih nije uspevao da prepozna. Kao takve.

Slikovita je scena kad bivšoj dragoj Brix E., MES prilikom ponovnog susreta sa Hanleyem, priča kako je basista dobio dete. Ili kad MESa hvata panika kad članovima benda prilazi lik za koga lider veruje da je omađijan.

Hanley ipak nije ni toliko naivan. Ne gubi smisao za humor ni kad celu "misiju" poredi sa legendarnim "Spinal Tap".

Po ovome što sam uspeo da svarim:
 -  Stevenu skidam sesir.
 -  MESu ne bih baš rado želeo da se nađem na putu.
 -  Poslednjih 30ak stranica, jedva pročitao.
 -  The Fall su skinuli masku sa tolikih sudbina i razotkrili ih u njihovoj besmislenosti. Dok su neke druge (sudbine) učinili još lepšim i kompleksnijim u njihovoj stamenosti.
